Consortium for the 2025 WBDI Commission Competition

Women Band Directors International (WBDI) is accepting proposals for a commission by female* composers for a grade 3 work for concert band that is 3 - 3.5 minutes in length. The composition should be of the quality that would be included in a state festival or contest list. The winner of the competition will be commissioned to write a piece for a WBDI member to perform with her band in the 2025-2026 academic year. The winning composer will receive a $4,500 USD award. (This includes travel for the dress rehearsal and premier performance). The award will be funded through WBDI and 10 additional consortium members.

*This is an inclusive definition of female which includes cis- and transgender women, those who are nonbinary, gender non-conforming, and anyone who identifies as female in a way that is significant to them.

WBDI is accepting 10 consortium participants, who are WBDI members, on a first come, first served basis. Consortium participants must complete this two-step process:

Fill out the Google form to Join the Consortium for the 2025 WBDI Commission Competition first, regardless of how you are paying.
Submit payment of $200.00 using one of these options.

Credit card. Submit payment below.
Purchase Order. Contact womenbanddirectorsint@gmail.com for vendor information.
Check. Please complete the payment information below.

The deadline to register and pay is March 1, 2025.
Payment and registration must both be received before WBDI will accept you as a participant.
