The Department of Music and Dance at Eastern Michigan University seeks a dynamic conductor and music educator, beginning fall 2010, who is committed to working in a collaborative environment focused on preparing students to become successful music educators and performers.

Responsibilities will include conducting the Symphonic Band, directing “The Pride of the Peninsula” Marching Band, teaching courses in conducting and instrumental music education methods, and assisting the Director of Bands with recruitment activities and the administration of a comprehensive university band program. Other duties may include assignments appropriate to the candidate’s strengths and interests and to the needs of the Department. Continued scholarly/creative activity related to the area of appointment is expected.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate or ABD is preferred; a master’s degree, plus 18 hours of graduate credit—or equivalent professional experience—is required. At least one degree must be in music education, and the candidate must have had, or currently hold, teacher certification. A minimum of five years of teaching experience is required, with an established record of success in both collegiate and public school settings. Significant experience with college marching band is preferred.
